Bordeaux airport to the city centre: private driver, taxi or public transport?
You have just landed at Bordeaux-Mérignac airport (BOD) and you want to reach the city centre, your hotel or Saint-Jean train station. There are several options: a private driver (VTC), a taxi or public transport. Here is how to choose depending on your situation.
A short ride, about twenty minutes
The airport is in Mérignac, about twelve kilometres from the centre of Bordeaux. By car, count around twenty minutes, more at rush hour, during an event in town or when there are roadworks. Allow extra time if you have a train to catch.
Your options to get to the centre
- Private driver (VTC): booked in advance, your driver waits for you on arrival and takes you to the address of your choice. The price is given before departure. It is the simplest solution with luggage, with family or in a group. See our airport transfers.
- Taxi: taken at a taxi rank, with the price based on the meter. Handy without a booking, but you only know the final price on arrival.
- Public transport: the city’s bus and tram network serves the airport. It is the cheapest option, but you need to check current lines and timetables and carry your own luggage.
Which option for your situation
- Lots of luggage or children: a private driver, with a van for up to 8 passengers if you are a large group and a child seat available on board.
- Arriving late at night or very early in the morning: a private driver, bookable 24/7.
- A meeting or a train you cannot miss: a private driver booked in advance, for an on-time pick-up.
- Travelling light, with no time constraint: public transport may be enough.
